Terms and conditions

The agreement, in ordinary sentences.

What you buy, when an order is final, who the story belongs to, and what applies if something goes wrong.

1Who we are

MiraTells makes personal stories and delivers them as a digital file and as a printed product.

Questions about an order or a story go to [email protected]. That address is the same for every country; we answer in the language you write in.

2What these terms cover

These terms apply to every use of this site and to every order you place here. If we depart from them anywhere, we record that in writing.

3How an order comes about

You make a story, you read Mira’s proposal and you choose what you want to receive. The agreement comes about at the moment your payment succeeds and we confirm your order by e-mail.

If a price or description on the site turns out to contain an obvious error, we are not bound by it. We then contact you and refund you if you do not want to continue with the order.

4What you are buying

A story made especially for you, and the forms you choose for it: eBook, hardcover, audiobook, colouring book or Story Movie. What each form contains is set out on the product pages.

The stories and illustrations are made with artificial intelligence, based on what you enter. That means the result is different every time and that no two orders are the same.

5Your approval, and what happens after it

Before anything goes into production, you read the full story with the illustrations. You can ask for a change per scene. Only once you approve do we start producing.

After your approval, production cannot be undone. A printed book is made especially for you and cannot be resold.

6What you enter

By entering something, you declare that:

  • you are allowed to use the photographs you upload, and that the people shown — or their parents — have agreed to it;
  • what you enter does not infringe anyone else’s rights and is not contrary to the law.

We may refuse or stop an order if what is entered gives cause to — for example material that harms a child, hateful content, or plain abuse. You are then notified and, if nothing has been produced yet, refunded.

7Who the story belongs to

The story and the illustrations made for you may be used by you without limit, for yourself: reading, sharing with family and friends, printing and giving away. You do not have to ask us for any of that.

For commercial use — selling, publishing, or using in advertising — our permission is needed.

We do not use your story as an example or as advertising unless you give separate permission for that. You can withdraw that permission.

The MiraTells brand, this site, the character Mira and our illustration styles remain ours.

8Prices and payment

All prices on this site include VAT. Shipping is added as soon as something is printed and is stated separately on the order.

Payment goes through our payment provider. The agreement only takes effect once the payment has succeeded.

9Delivery

Digital products are ready as soon as they are made, usually within an hour of your approval. For printed products the indicative delivery time is stated with the product; it starts at the moment you approve the story. Stated delivery times are guidelines and not fixed deadlines.

If it takes longer than thirty days and we have given no good reason for that, you may dissolve the agreement and get your money back.

10Right of withdrawal

Because the story is made especially for you, the statutory right of withdrawal lapses as soon as we begin with your express consent. You tick that deliberately at checkout.

What that means exactly, and what does apply if something is wrong with the delivery, is on the page about withdrawal.

11If something is wrong

If a book arrives damaged, pages are missing or the printing is wrong, let us know with a photograph. We send a new copy. You do not have to send the damaged copy back.

If making the story fails because something went wrong on our side, we refund what you paid for the part that was not delivered.

Your statutory rights as a consumer always continue to apply; nothing in these terms limits them.

12Liability

We are liable for damage resulting from a failure attributable to us, up to at most the amount of the order concerned. This limitation does not apply in the event of intent or conscious recklessness on our part, and not to damage to life or health.

13Your account

At checkout we create an account for you automatically, so that you find your stories again. Signing in works with a link by e-mail; there is no password. Keep your mailbox safe — whoever can reach it can reach your stories.

You can close your account at any time from your account settings.

14Changes

We may amend these terms. For an order, the terms as they read at the moment you placed it apply.

15Applicable law

These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes are brought before the competent court, unless the law designates another court.

If you and we cannot work it out, you can turn to the European Consumer Centre (ECC-Net). It helps consumers free of charge with a dispute against a seller in another EU country. Every EU country has such a centre; the one in your own country will help you further.

This can only become your book.

Not a book with a name filled in, but a story that changes because you are in it.
