Space
Above your garden the same universe begins.
For children, space is at once enormous and very close: it simply hangs above the roof in the evening. Mira lets the story begin there, and uses what a child already knows — because they often know more planets than we do.
Personal. Really personal.
What makes a space story personal
Not the rocket, but who comes along and what stays behind at home.
- the planet they know everything about
- who flies along — and who waves
- the object that has to come, however awkward
- the question they keep asking about stars
- the place where you look up together
- what they would take along for the journey
“She turned straight back to the first page to find her gran again.”

Three directions Mira can take
The stairs that kept going
Above the attic there is another floor, and above that another. At the last step there is no roof any more.
Someone on Mars is writing
A reply to a note that went up on a balloon last year.
The moon has lost its light
Someone has to go and bring it back, and that someone happens to live here.
You need not choose. “Let Mira choose” is there too, and your own idea is always welcome.
From your world
What you tell, and what comes out

Mira’s proposal
Sophie and Grandpa among the stars
When Sophie sees a strange light behind the apple tree one evening at Grandpa’s, together they discover a spaceship that takes them further than Grandpa’s star charts could ever show.

Young children enjoy the departure and the return; from about seven they want to know how it works. Mira keeps the facts right where she can, and lets the rest be story.
Questions people often ask
Is what it says about planets correct?
Mira sticks to what is really known about the planets and the moon, and invents around that. Children who know a lot about space see straight through a made-up fact — and then the rest of the story is no longer true either.
Can Grandpa or Grandma fly along?
Yes, and that is often the loveliest. Add them as a character, with a photo or a description. The story is then about the two of you instead of about space.
Will it not get too technical?
No. Mira writes no explanation but an adventure; what is learnt comes in passing. You can read in the preview how it sounds before the book is made.
